BCA 50 OVERS – Summary & Results 3rd Game

February 27, 2017

The BCA National 50 Overs League continued on February 26th, 2017 for the Southern Region, inspite of the heavy downpour in Gaborone, during the past week. The BCA Groundstaff under the able guidance of Mr Fazal Sheriff, deserve total credit for their efforts in working tirelessly to prepare a playable surface, which was appreciated and applauded by the Players and match officials, alike. It was also a blessing that the sun smiled down at the BCA Oval, permitting a very interesting game to be played.

The third encounter was between Tladi & Shining Stars which was played on the A Field at the BCA Oval, with a 75 minute delayed start.

At the onset, the scores look very disappointing and possibly even discouraging, but the true nature of the result can only be appreciated, when one is aware of the dynamics of the Pitch and the difficult conditions under which Batsmen had to struggle against the whims of the Ball.

Tladi’s innings got off to a shocker, with early wickets tumbling and the Overs being bowled through by the upbeat Shining Stars bowlers. The nature and shape of the game that was to ensue thereafter, was clearly evident during the early stages of Tladi’s innings. The need for courage and character by batsmen were to be the order of the day and this was displayed yet again, by Tladi Skipper, Karabo Motlhanka with some determined support by Rashaad Mosweu. From a meagre 20 for 2 after 11 overs, the partnership between Motlhanka & Mosweu gave some sanith to their innings before succumbing and posting a total of 112 all out.

Shining Stars were not exempt from the difficulties of batting, in their innings, and the Tladi Bowlers reciprocated relentlessly. At the fall of 2 wickets, the U-19 Skipper, Tharindu Perera joined Muaz Arooz to steady the rocking boat and seemed set to take the game away, as the pair showed grit and determination under the cirumstances. Unfortunately for Shining Stars, Arooz was removed followed a short while later by Perera and despite some effort from Willie van Niekerk, the youngsters fell short of their target, as they were bowled out for 91.
