NATIONAL 50 OVERS TOURNAMENT – FINALS

Winners - Team Tshukudu

BCA’s National 50 Overs tournament, in it’s first edition, was concluded yesterday (Sunday, November 17th) at the BCA Oval, when both the southern region teams, Nkwe and Tshukudu engaged themselves for top honours, having overcome their northern region counterparts in the semi-finals.

Despite the showers overnight, the game commenced with only a slight delay from the scheduled start time of 9:30am, as it got under way at 9:45am. The “Spirit of the Game” was shown when players readily offered their help to the Groundstaff in removing the Covers in preparation for the start.
The Final was poised to take on an interesting hue as Nkwe who finished 1st at the end of the group stages were looking to retain the status quo while Tshukudu who finished 2nd, had other ideas.

Nkwe won the toss and decided to put Tshukudu in to bat, with the confidence that they would chase any target set for them, considering their mammoth scores in the earlier games during the tournament. This decision seemed to be paying off for Nkwe initially, as they had Tshukudu on the back foot for a while, until some determined and gutsy batting display came to the fore from Karabo Modise, Thatayaone Tshose and Nabil Master. Despite losing wickets in irregular intervals, Tshukudu managed to register a respectable 293 in their allotted 50 Overs.

A fairly confident Nkwe team were geared up to chase down their target as they needed less than 6 runs an Over from the start of their innings. Needless to say, they again got off to a positive start thans to their opners and some wayward bowling from the Tshukudu seamers. However, luck seemed to have favoured the fielding side giving them an opportunity and Nabil Master literally broke the Nkwe innings into two with his fiery spell, inspite of a rather shaky first few overs. Nkwe always kept up with their asking rate and despite Shahzaib Khan and Shahbaz Ali showing purpose, the frequent loss of wickets led them to their defeat and finally succumbed to Tshukudu scoring 189 all out.

Tshukudu 293 all out in 50 Overs; (Karabo Modise 60 runs, Thatayaone Tshose 62 runs & Nabil Master 33 runs. Parvez Sheikh took 3 wickets whilst Shabaz Ali took 2 wickets).
Nkwe 189 all out in 31.2 Overs; (Shahzaib Khan 59 runs & Shabaz Ali 32 runs. Nabil Master took 5 wickets)
Tshukudu won by 104 runs.

Man of the Match for his bowling performance and contribution with the bat was Nabil Master.
